Display : Workbench& Yet Another Kommodity is the&author's description for this&Workbench 2.x utility. It features a&very comprehensive set of options to&enhance your use of the Workbench. How&helpful it is will depend on how many!of it's features you find of use.& The docs are in AmigaGuide format&but if you haven't an AmigaGuide&reader there's one included called&ShowHype by Nick de Jong. I assume&it's Public Domain though there's no&documentation included. It's adequate&for the job anyway. Also included is&the source code for Yak and half a&dozen alternative icons. (Without the&cacti - They're my fault. ;-) The docs&for Yak are very detailed but&unfortunately are not available from
within the program itself. & Yak gives you a range of mouse and&keyboard controls over your windows&such as moving them to the front or&back and expanding or collapsing them.&If you want some special type of&control over windows then it's&probably available here. Screen$manipulation is also taken care off.& Keyboard control is implemented&through a suit of 15 types of hotkeys.&Along with the window and screen ones&there's ones for Dos commands, opening&the palette selector, blanking the&display, opening Yak's display panel,&inserting the date when entering text!as well as entering text strings.& The insert text option can also&include any of the other hotkeys so&quit clever macros could be built. One&thing missing from text insertion&however is any way of deleting text.&The return key is catered for so this&could also have been included. I've&found one use for macros is when&you're working on files in different&directories and are constantly&switching between them but having to&use the same requester. Being able to&enter the full path name with a single&keypress makes life a lot easier.&However there is always some text in&the requester first that has to be&erased hence the need for delete. The&cursor keys might also be of use. Has&everyone forgotten the great text
entry of the C64?& Also available is a mouse blanker&and a key beep option. Does anyone use&these an if so why? They're there
anyway.& Yak lives in my startup drawer so&I've found it useful but mainly for&it's ability to bring windows to the&front with a double mouse click and&for text insertion. The window&selection is not quite perfect as&clicking on a drawer first brings the&window it's in to the front before&opening the drawer's window which is
not what you usually want.& Those little criticisms aside this&is a small (22k according to the&author) and efficient utility and like&some of Martin Scott's other programs&such as TinyClock and ToolAlias, (also&living in my startup drawer), it seems
very safe to use.&Recommended if you need any of it's&features or want to wipe out a swarm&of other little programs doing what
